This area of our state is known for ancient white pine groves, the Clearwater Canyon, Hells Canyon with it’s famous white water rafting, and the fertile prairies and farmlands of the Palouse. This region houses 10 of the states’ largest cities and is home to a number of fine wineries and vineyards. The Snake River intersects the region providing abundant fishing, and whitewater thrills. The high desert of the southern area gives explorers and hikers a close, and yet a remote area for exploration. You will find numerous produce festivals and farmers markets due to the abundance of cherries, apples, pears, and peaches. A great place to discover your own unique piece of Idaho.

This magic valley was created by the wonders of the Snake River. It grows the bulk of the states’ produce and provides a large quantity of the states’ dairies. Various reservoirs and lakes provide crystal clear waterfalls, fly-fishing, and wind surfing.  You will also find an abundance of rock-climbing adventures in this region. The famed Wyoming “Teton” mountain range rings this region. Some of the oldest settlements in the state can be found here. You will see many long A-frame potato sheds, as this part of the state is known as the number one potato producing area. Check out Idaho’s state parks: “Massacre Rocks,” and “Castle Rocks.” There is also a National Reserve: “City of the Rocks,” and Idaho’s own National Monument: “Crater’s Of The Moon.” For the winter sports enthusiast, visit “Pebble Creek.” Hiking and mountain biking are all part of this remarkable region.

This is the western gateway to two of America’s most beautiful national parks: Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and the popular route to the town of Jackson Hole. You will find the St. Anthony Sand Dunes are among the highest in the United States. Idaho Falls boasts of their Aquatic Center. Jefferson County has the Farnsworth TV & Pioneer Museum. Heise Hot Springs in Ririe offers 105 degree mineral hot baths. Don’t miss traveling along the popular loop tour of the Teton Scenic By-way and adjacent Mesa Falls Scenic By-way.

This region is without a doubt, the high country of Idaho.
