The National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest
Held the third week in June, from June 18th – 23rd, the contest and festival is celebrating it’s 60th year this summer. A whole week of amazing fiddle music and fun activities for the family will take place in the small town of Weiser, Idaho. There are a variety of different competitions taking place over the week, with all contests open to the public.
There will be ‘small fry’ fiddling, a competition for the youngsters, twin fiddling and various adult rounds leading up to the grand national championship rounds on Saturday June 23rd. Check out the full schedule for the National Oldtime Fiddler’s contest here.
Activities at the Weiser Fiddle Contest
In addition to the official activities provided by the National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest, a number of local organizations provide activities as fund-raisers for their organization’s projects. You will also find yard sales, car shows, Bikers’ Rodeo and more going on throughout the week.
The hub of the festival activity is the Bluegrass Village City Park. Here, visitors can look at arts and crafts and purchase a variety of delicious foods from vendors. Also in the park is the entertainment stage, where entertainment begins around noon on Tuesday and goes until around 9:30 each evening through Saturday. Full of trees, the park is a shady and cool place to spend a summer day.
The Kids Side of the Bluegrass Festival
A highlight for the youngsters is our the carnival. The carnival runs Wednesday through Saturday and is located at Memorial Park, a few blocks directly north of City Park. Discount tickets are available through Tuesday of Fiddle Week for All-You-Can-Ride wristbands at significant savings over purchase at carnival box office. Tickets are available from our office at 2235 Paddock Avenue (Slocum Hall) and at numerous businesses around town, also at Weiser Chamber of Commerce.
Saturday: The Big Parade and the Battle of the Bands
The number of entrants in the parade more than doubled in the last two years! The Battle of the Bluegrass Bands takes place on Saturday afternoon right after the parade. All this and much more await your pleasure on the Festival side of things.
