Sun Valley Harvest Festival 2012

The signature foodie event in the region, the Sun Valley Harvest Festival is celebrating its third year coming up next month. Held from September 21 – 23, Friday through Sunday, the three day festival combines internationally recognized winemakers and chefs with flavors from the agricultural wonders of Idaho and the Northwest.

Restaurant Walk at the Sun Valley Harvest Festival

Stroll the streets of historic Ketchum during the Restaurant Walk and sample eclectic cuisines and a moveable feast of the grandest proportion. The Restaurant Walk serves as the kick-off event for the Harvest Festival. Start at the Ketchum Town Square to check in and get your wrist band. Then you are on the loose to follow your taste buds through town and stroll amongst the featured restaurants, including Rickshaw, Tranquility and Rico’s. Enjoy each restaurant’s fall offering paired with a wine, beer or beverage of choice. This is a great way to sample some of Sun Valley’s finest eateries and enjoy a beautiful fall evening in scenic downtown Ketchum!

Peruse local produce, meats and dairy products from regional farmers and ranchers, artisan food makers and cheese mongers, organic coffee and tea, the latest in kitchen gadgets and much more.

The Marketplace will work in conjunction with the cooking demonstrations that take place under the lawn tent just outside the marketplace. Listen to one of our guest chefs present their take on local Idaho food, sample their menu, pick-up a recipe, and then buy the ingredients in the Marketplace!

Rexburg Dance Festival

The Idaho international dance and music festival only one week away!

Information about the Dancing:

This year there are over 300 dancers and musicians that will come to us from around the globe for this gala event to share the excitement of their native dances and music. These performances are alive with colorful costuming, exotic instruments and stirring rhythms. The Idaho International Dance and Music Festival is only one of four held annually festivals of this nature in the United States. Sanctioned by one of the largest folk arts organizations in the world, the CIOFF (whose headquarters in Confolons, France), the event is one-of-a-kind and extremely unique.

Malad Valley Welsh Festival

Welsh Culture and History Celebrated in Southeastern Idaho

The 8th annual Malad Valley Welsh Festival commemorates the heritage of the Welsh in southeastern Idaho with a four-day Festival that has something for everyone, Welsh or not! Located in Oneida County, the Malad Valley was originally settled by Welsh pioneers in the 1860s. One of their many Welsh traditions was an annual cultural arts event called an eisteddfod, celebrated for over 900 years. This event was held locally until it was discontinued before World War 1. The festival takes place from June 28th through July 1st.

Events at the Malad Valley Welsh Festival

Day 1: Experts in Welsh genealogy from the Salt Lake City Family History Library will present workshops on Welsh names and language, how to conduct Welsh family research, and how to preserve photographs. Malad Valley has the largest per capita concentration of people of Welsh ancestry outside the country of Wales itself. For that reason, many residents of the Valley wanted to reestablish their Welsh roots.

Day 2: Entertainment of all types dominate the second day, including:

Choral and piano concerts. The music of Evan Stephens, composer and conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will be featured at the choral concert.
Welsh musicians and dancers
Youth presentations about local historic sites
Professional presentations about Welsh culture, language, and history. Dr. Ronald Dennis will present about the Welsh Mormon emigration to the western United States.
Displays about Welsh pioneer families and pioneer games
Wagon rides to historic sites in Malad
Quilt show
Biathlon
Film festival
Community lunch and breakfast
Food and home craft vendors

Day 3: An evening program in the historic 130-year-old Presbyterian Church will feature male vocal soloists.

Most events are held at the Malad City Park and the town church. Take main exit to Malad. Follow Welsh and United States flags to City Park on 100 West, one block south of downtown Malad. There are many fine Idaho Bed and Breakfast options in the vicinity of Malad. Take a look at one now!
