The Snake River Roaring Youth Jam is a family arts festival in Idaho Falls. Organized by the Idaho Falls Arts Council, the “Youth Jam” is three days of art, theater and music for kids of all ages and their families. Held August 11th through 13th (Thursday through Saturday), the festival will include world music, a battle of the bands and various participatory art projects.

At 7 p.m. on Aug. 11 &12 (Thursday and Friday), head to the Colonial Theater on A Street for a free takio drumming show. An ensemble of America’s premier and emerging taiko drummers will be performing. Dedicated to preserving and disseminating American taiko drumming, the ensemble’s work balances the traditions and rich history of American taiko with a contemporary edge exploring new dimensions in the art form.
On Saturday night (Aug. 13), make your way to Civitan’s Plaza in historic downtown Idaho Falls for the Battle of the Bands! This show is a premiere venue for young bands in eastern Idaho. As many as 15 bands will compete for their share of over $2000 in prizes. Judges are a mix of Snake River All Star musicians and area high school students.

Entrants will receive by e-mail a complete judges tally with comments. Bands will have the chance to garner a local business for sponsorship of their band. All participants will have the opportunity to attend the free judges workshop presented by members of the Snake River Allstars. Register your band or your child’s at the Idaho Falls Arts Council.
